Tips for a Newborn session

We want this to be a special moment and everything to happen in the best way for everyone. So we prepared some important tips.

At DM Portrait home studio, safety is our main priority at all times, especially during flu season and during this COVID-19 epidemic. We carry out all the hygiene before, during and after the place and the material used in the session, but it is important that the family is also concerned about the issue.

If I (or anyone in my household) becomes unwell orcomes into contact with anyone exhibiting symptoms,you will be notified immediately and we can reschedule for a better time.

In addition to taking care of health, we need to follow some steps for the success of the session, since newborns are sensitive and delicate. We noticed that when they were sleepy we got better results in the photos.

That's why we recommend:

  • Keep the baby awake between 2-3 hours before the session;
  • Bath, interact with him and breastfeed before leaving or just before arriving at the studio;
  • Dress the baby in light and simple clothes, without parts that need to be changed over the head so as not to wake him up;
  • Avoid very tight garments like socks;
  • Bring a bottle or pacifier, if you use one. It may be necessary at some point;
  • For breast feeding mothers, avoid eating spicy or acidic foods and drinking caffeine 48 hours before to avoid any unwanted effects on the baby;
  • The studio gets very warm to soothe the baby, so come along with the session in layered clothing, in case you feel hot;
  • Bring wet wipes, towel, extra diapers in case you need to change the baby during the photos. For parents, it might be interesting to bring an extra outfit too, in case of unforeseen events;
  • If you wish to have a portrait with your keep the clothing simple.Personally, I think plain tops with neutral colors work best,please skip bright and busy patterns & large logos where possible.
